Northwards was started in 2002, as a vehicle for the designer Chris Jackson to explore creative ideas and design projects. Since its inception, the studio has worked on a wide range of projects, varied in both scope and discipline.
As the studio, its work and ethos have developed, sustainability has become a more pressing and urgent issue. Chris believes that sustainable design is an oxymoron, and 'sustainability' should not be regarded as a separate subject within design. Instead, the studio pursues an overarching design excellence that incorporates a multi-faceted design methodology to deliver projects that brim with intelligence and humour, coupled with empathy for client needs, and a comprehensive understanding of materials' science and manufacturing techniques.
