Designed by Susanne Philippson, Guardian of Light is a
clear juxtaposition between tradition in shape and
innovation in the unveiling and slicing of light. It
looks like classic lampshades until they are switched on,
at which point you realize that the classical form conceals
an innovative idea: the shade is a cloak that wraps around
itself, keeping the magic of the light secret. When the
cloak is opened, by means of the protruding flap, the lamp
gently releases its light, which goes out again when the
cloak is closed.
The lamp features a polycarbonate shade and a liquid
rubber coated metal structure. Both shade and structure
come in the same finishes: matte black, aluminum grey,
or matte white.

It is a Light Switch
At a first glance, Guardian of Light looks like a classic
pendant light. But when it is switched on, it becomes
immediately clear that the apparently classic design
hides an innovative secret: the lampshade is like a
cape, closed around the light, holding it inside. When
it is pulled aside, the light is revealed, and dims when
it is closed. With Guardian of Light the mystery of
light emerges through the gesture of opening the
lampshade, so that light is cast on the surrounding
area, creating an enjoyable play of shadows and sensations.
Guardian of Light is available in different sizes with
a halogen light and an electromagnetic switch and a
shade in silkscreen printed polycarbonate with trim
in black, white and aluminum grey. |
