The minimal use of refined natural materials, are recurring themes in all of Townsend's designs. The Orbit light series is especially close to his heart, with the string light licensed and produced by Habitat Ltd UK, and named one of the top five lighting designs of the year by Elle Deco, UK in 2003. The recently designed Orbit Chandelier was the result of "pulling apart and exploding the string light" to create "a delicately woven pattern of energy". It has been exhibited at Terminal 5, Living Spaces and Tokyo Designers Block, and most recently featured in Surface Magazine.
